With electricity demand growing across Ontario, investing in innovation and understanding community feedback will be critical to ensuring today’s needs are met, while anticipating and planning for the electricity system of the future. The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) is committed to support initiatives that will increase the reliability and cost-effectiveness of the electricity system to meet the future needs of communities across Ontario.
The IESO is looking to understand insights and recommendations on key considerations to develop a Future Clean Electricity Fund. This Fund is a crucial initiative in response to the Ministry of Energy’s “Powering Ontario’s Growth” report that will support the development of new clean energy projects as the province builds out its grid to meet the demands of the economy, population growth, and electrification of transportation and industry. During this webinar, the IESO team presented preliminary details on the Clean Electricity Fund. The IESO team is hoping to understand:
- What type of clean electricity projects are you exploring?
- What barriers have you experienced to implementing clean electricity projects?
- What tools would be helpful to overcome the barriers?
- Any streams that should be considered?
- What considerations should go into determining priority projects?
- Did your municipality provide, or decline to provide, support to a project in the IESO’s expedited long term procurement?
- How could the fund be used to bolster support/decision making for providing support to generation projects located in your municipality?
