This webinar is part of the Climate Governance, Accountability, and Implementation CAC Series, where we will learn about different structures of climate governance and ways for municipalities to be answerable and transparent about the actions required to mitigate and adapt to climate change effectively. We will feature municipal presentations sharing their experience thus far in several webinars, followed by an in-person workshop to explore which structures can be transferable within other jurisdictions’ contexts and what other ways can support the more progressive implementation of climate actions.
In this second webinar of the series, Ash Michael from the City of Toronto shared about the recently adopted Carbon Accountability Governance system, which outlines the set-up of emission budgets, the reporting structure, the timeframe, and assigns responsibility. Additionally, Toronto has implemented a climate lens into its budget process. Ash walked us through Toronto’s new one-stop internal website that provides various resources to support staff in increasing their climate knowledge and capacity, including conducting a greenhouse gas (GHG) impact assessment and/or a climate risk assessment.
